Programs / Bulgarian Teachers

This program has several major objectives: identification and encouragement of excellence in teaching professionals; stimulating development of the educational environment; identification and development of young talented students.

Our program for encouraging and motivating excellence in teaching professionals is jointly administered with the Unions of Mathematicians, Chemists, Biologists and Physicists. After nationwide competitions the Foundation's Awards for discovering and encouragement of young talents to teachers in mathematics, informatics, physics, chemistry and biology are publicly announced and presented. The award fund for the above areas amounts to about 2,000 Euro a year.

Jointly with the above-mentioned unions, the Foundation continues the Educational Environment Program, launched in 1995. Its objective is to stimulate the upgrading of educational facilities (study rooms, laboratories and training centers) in Bulgarian schools. The program operates as a competition and the total sum of the awards is also about 2,000 Euro a year.

The Awards of the Foundation are bestowed on the winners at special ceremonies within the program of the Annual National Conference of Teachers in the respective field.

The Pedagogical School, which was registered as a separate non-governmental organization in 1998 with the idea of assisting the work of teachers in the humanities, is another successful part of the Program for Bulgarian Teachers. Each year the School organizes two national conferences and has published several handbooks to facilitate the educational process in secondary schools. The St. Cyril and St. Methodius Foundation continues to assist the Pedagogical School in the search for effective ways to introduce civic education through humanities in the schools.

Jointly with the Plovdiv Municipality, the St. Cyril and St. Methodius Humanities High-school, the St. Cyril and St. Methodius Theological Seminary and the St. Cyril and St. Methodius Secondary General School in Plovdiv, the Foundation helps the annual celebrations of May 11, the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, which started as an idea of Academician Kenderov in 1997. The celebrations revived the tradition that the Nayden Gerov's School had previously established and were widely covered in the Bulgarian mass-media.
